Travels in Aotearoa (New Zealand)

3/6/2016

Kia Ora
4 weeks ago I arrived in New Zealand to visit my daughter who lives in Paremata, just north of the capital city, Wellington. We spent most of our time together touring the South Island in an (old) rented car, revisiting places I haven't seen since emigrating the country in 1997.
The country has changed a lot; less sheep, more dairy cattle, better coffee, more tourists, more sophistication, less old-world charm. The beautiful scenery, native bush and beckoning beaches remain the same.

West Coast Harps Moving on November 30, 2015!

10/17/2015

Picture
On December 1st, 2015 West Coast Harps will have a new studio located in Cedar, a small rural community, just south of Nanaimo on south-central Vancouver Island in British Columbia Canada.
There will be more display space, more parking, less traffic and less battling traffic for Alison! (Of course some would say Victoria doesn't have traffic compared to say...Toronto)

Harp and Hammered Dulcimer music for download

1/30/2015

Winter is a good time to work inside and I've been busy adding sheet music for harp and hammered dulcimer to my celtic harp sheet music site.

There's a delightful new book of tunes for the intermediate harp player called "Melodies for Harp" by my friend Mildred Plant.

You can listen to me play her piece "Sahara" on YouTube.

Celtic Harp Sheet Music now has 3 books of tunes for hammered dulcimer There are 13 international tunes per book .  A 4th book is in the making.

You can listen to me playing a medley of 3 tunes, the first Chinese, followed by Japanese and Appalachian on this YouTube video.

All music is available for download at CelticHarpSheetMusic.com

Glorious Fall!

9/21/2014

The sun is continuing to blaze into September, and though the soil is parched and lake and river levels are at their lowest, we all enjoy the reprieve before winter arrives.
Kayaking is a popular sport around here  and I've been on numerous mini-trips around various lakes and shorelines of Vancouver Island and the many smaller gulf islands that encircle it. Here's a photo taken from the shore of Hornby Island - note the interesting, natural sandstone formations. Texada Island is behind us (I'm on the right disguised with sunhat)

New to West Coast Harps - the Harp Cart!

8/25/2014

Harps seem to gain weight each year - or so it seems as we age.

A comfortable solution: the harp cart. Saves backs, shoulders and harps!

See the accessories page on the West Coast Harps website for full details.
